We support the wellbeing of Indigenous workers by being a community where people feel safe, supported, and connected.

Indigenous Rights & Activism Course

The UFCW 1518 Indigenous Committee is hosting an Indigenous Rights & Activism course that combines curriculum from a WebCampus course created by UFCW Canada with hybrid online discussions.

This introductory course aims to create greater awareness of the key issues that impact Indigenous Peoples, both historically, and today. Rather than diving deep into history, the course focuses on core themes, offering tools and perspectives to support your personal journey of reconciliation

Christine Holowka, a dedicated 35-year member of UFCW 1518, joined the UFCW 1518 Executive Board in 2012.

She is a passionate advocate for education and awareness on indigenous issues, having served on the Provincial Indigenous Committee, National Indigenous Sub-Committee, and Human Rights Equity and Diversity National Committee.

Christine is committed to engaging with members and empowering them to use their voices to champion workers’ and human rights. 

Brandi Charley

Brandi Charley is from British Columbia and of Secwepemc and St’át’imc descent. She is a confident member of UFCW since 2023, and a participant since 2025. In May of 2026 she elected as Co-Chair of the Indigenous Committee. 

Growing up with her families Indigenous upbringings. Brandi is passionate about her Indigenous culture and is gladly willing to share and teach others, while continuing to expand her own knowledge. She has been in various leadership roles before joining UFCW. Brandi currently participates in a local Indigenous youth group in her community.
