UFCW 1518 Marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

On May 17th, we mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia and reaffirm our dedication to building a safe and inclusive world, where all are welcome regardless of their identity. It is a day to stand united against prejudice and discrimination, and to celebrate the diversity that strengthens our communities.

2SLGBTQI+ individuals not only face harassment and discrimination in their workplaces and communities but are also increasingly targeted by discriminatory, regressive policies and legislation. These policies put them at risk and question their very identities, undermining their rights and freedoms. This growing tide of intolerance and bigotry is unacceptable and must be actively opposed.

Employers must take concrete actions to protect their 2SLGBTQI+ employees from discrimination. This includes implementing robust anti-discrimination policies, providing diversity and inclusion training, and creating a workplace culture that genuinely values and supports every employee. By fostering a safe and supportive environment, employers can ensure that all workers can bring their whole selves to work, free from fear and prejudice.

On this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, let us renew our commitment to equality and justice. Together we can dismantle the barriers of discrimination and prejudice, building a world where everyone, regardless of their sexual or gender identity can live with dignity and pride.

We’d like to highlight UFCW Outreach, the UFCW membership organization dedicated to supporting 2SLGBTQI+ members. You can join Outreach, access resources, and learn more at ufcwoutreach.org.
