May Day 2024: Celebrating a United Labour Movement

Today, on behalf of all of us at UFCW 1518, we would like to extend well wishes for a happy May Day to workers around the globe. While September marks the celebration of Labour Day in North America, today highlights that the labour movement transcends borders and nationalities.

This day commemorates the relentless pursuit of fairness, safety, equality, and justice in workplaces worldwide. May Day is not only a reminder of shared struggles; it also celebrates the unity of workers across the world who are standing together against injustice.

We also would like to specifically express gratitude for the strength, perseverance, and unity of our members. UFCW 1518 members have been, and continue to be, the backbone of a movement that has championed workers’ rights in British Columbia and the Yukon for over a century. Our movement is stronger than ever, with thousands of new workers across the province standing to demand the respect they deserve. We are grateful to the generations of members who have fought for our rights, and those who continue to build on their legacy, striving to build a better British Columbia and Yukon.

Today reaffirms our commitment to advancing the rights, dignity and respect of all workers. United, there is no limit to what we can accomplish together. As we reflect on our journey and the progress we’ve made, let us also look to the future with hope and determination, ready to achieve further milestones for workers in BC and beyond.

As we celebrate this May Day, let us continue to support each other and continue to push forward with unwavering belief in the power of workers. Happy May Day to our members and the workers of the world – we stand with you in the ongoing fight for fairness, today and always.
