UFCW 1518 Welcomes Ronda Melbourne as New Secretary-Treasurer

UFCW 1518 is proud to announce the election of Ronda Melbourne by our Executive Board as the new Secretary-Treasurer of our union. With over two decades of experience in the labour movement and a deep commitment to advocating for workers’ rights, Ronda is poised to bring her extensive knowledge, lived experience, and passion to this vital role.

Ronda began her journey with UFCW 1518 in 1998 when the store where she worked, Cooper’s Foods, became unionized. Since then, she has taken on many leadership roles at her workplace and the local. Over the years, Ronda has served on multiple Bargaining Committees, taken on leadership roles at her workplace as a Shop Steward, and contributed significantly as a member of the UFCW 1518 Executive Board from 2016 to 2019. Since 2018, she has worked to serve our members as a Union Representative.

Ronda’s leadership extends across various sectors. She has represented members from all kinds of UFCW 1518 workplaces: from healthcare units to retail stores and industrial plants. As an experienced negotiator, Ronda has been instrumental in securing better working conditions and benefits for our members. Most recently, she played a crucial role at the bargaining table for Save-On-Foods and Safeway in 2023, as one of the lead contract negotiators.

As Secretary-Treasurer, Ronda will bring her extensive experience, unwavering commitment, and strong leadership to UFCW 1518. Her focus will continue to be on advocating for the rights and interests of all members, ensuring that our union remains strong and with members at the forefront.

When asked about her election, Ronda said: “I am deeply honoured to have been elected as the Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW 1518. As a former grocery worker, this work is personal to me. The work of this union is not just vital for our individual members but for all working people in this province. I am incredibly proud of our union and the progress we’ve made together. I look forward to continuing to serve our diverse membership in this new capacity and am committed to working tirelessly to uphold the values and rights of all our UFCW 1518 members.”

We are excited to see the positive impact Ronda will have in her new role and look forward to her continued contributions to our union.
